The lawyers of Puttur who were the backbone of the parental organization Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha (formerly Know as Puttur Education Society®) made up their minds for the establishment of a Law college for imparting legal education to the local poor students in and around Puttur and Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, and other adjoining districts of Karnataka.

Sri. K. Rama Bhat Ex. M.L.A, Sri. K. Ramachndra Bhat, Sri. N. Subrhamanyam, Late. Sri Mukunda Prabhu, Late. Sri. Ramachandra Shenoy and others made the dream of Puttur people a reality by establishing the Law College in the year 1988 in order to meet the growing need of the students seeking legal education. The college was inaugurated by Justice Rama Jois on August 1988 (Five years law degree), in Vivekananda college premises. Late. Professor K.G.Thantri, the first principal laid the solid foundations for this college.  He had rendered yeoman service to this institution till 30/04/1993. Shree Vidyashankar. T served this institution as principal from 01/05/1993 to 22/06/2003. Now under the vision and dynamic leadership of Shree Udaya Krishna .B, principal, the college is heading towards greater heights and achievements.
